A different approach for my blog entry this time around. Hari Raya’s coming as in a couple of days and here I wanna share with you my family’s favourite dish of all times… Ayam Masak Merah Berempah. This dish is simply a great companion with Nasi Bryani, the way my family loves eating it with, especially during festive occasions such as Hari Raya.

Ingredients :
1 ekor ayam (potong dan dibersihkan dan goreng setengah masak)
3 biji bawang besar dipotong bulat
3 biji cengkih
4 biji buah pelaga
3cm kulit kayu manis
200g tomato puree ( can be substituted with tomato sauce)
4 biji tomato (dipotong enam)
sedikit kacang peas dan bawang goreng
2 batang serai dititik
3 cm lengkuas dititk
2 tangkai daun ketumbar (digunting kasar)
garam dan gula secukup rasa
Bahan kisar:
10 batang lada kering
4 biji bawang putih
3cm halia
2 sudu makan ketumbar
1 sudu makan jintan manis
Panaskan minyak. tumis bawang besar, kayu manis, cengkih, pelaga , serai, lengkuas dan bahan kisar hingga wangi. Masukkan 1 cawan air, ayam goreng, tomato puree, garam dan gula. Masak hingga ia pekat. Bila pekat, taburkan buah tomato, kacang peas , bawang goreng dan daun ketumbar. ======================================================================
Speaking of food for festivities, I’ve thought of coming up with different dishes this time around to be served on the 1st day of Hari Raya. Usually at my mum’s place on the 1st day of Raya, the dining table at the kitchen would be fully laid with loads of special dishes coming from my maternal aunts, e.g lontong , ketupat, lepat, nasi jagung, nasi dhal, rendang, ayam masak merah, sambal goreng & the list goes on. Some of those dishes, say example the rendang, I can surely bet that all 3 of my maternal aunts will cook it. And yes, being sisters, I’m sure all 3 rendangs cooked by them will taste somewhat similar as to my mum’s. (these sisters like to spend much of their time yakking on the phone for hours and i strongly believe that among the topics they would discussed will be food recipes).Lol. ;p
What about you, my blog readers; what special main dishes does your mum, wife or grandma prepare for special festivities like these? Share your thoughts with me aite

thanks for sharing the recipe!
as for my family, same thing lah, sambal goreng, lontong and all but my most fav has got to be the ayam masam manis! that one, every year die2 must have and it’s the only dish i’m cooking for raya since we’ll be having the rest at my parent’s place.
hmm, now i’m hungry!

.:Eda:.
ahaks.sesungguhnya kita masih berpuasa cik eda oi..
so what about you? what special/compulsory dish(es) does your family have every Raya?
erkkk… im fasting… owhhhhh…
Di, each year we will have the usual ketupat, lontong, rendang, etc that are actually given to us by a neighbour, my aunt staying nearby and my mum-in-law. At home, we would most likely have nasi tomato, nasi kabuli, nasi minyak or nasi bukhari. This year, I believe it will be nasi tomato again after not cooking it for the past 2 years. My Chinese relatives from my mum’s side of the family love to eat nasi tomato and they will always come on the first day to savour the dish at our place. They even get my mum to cook the dish for their Chinese new year and whenever they have functions.
Eid Mubarak to you and family. Mohon ampun dan maaf zahir dan batin.

Hi brudder Yaslam
wah quite a variety of special dishes there for Raya. very fortunate for you and your family to be staying near your aunt’s and your in-laws.
Hmm i got a question… nasi minyak, nasi tomato&nasi bukhari, I’ve heard and tasted all of them, but what is nasi kabuli? interesting name. care to share what’s that nasi like? the taste, origins etc.etc.
Di,
Actually I don’t really know the origins of the dish. Di antara bahan-bahannya ialah beras basmati, susu, bawang kecil, bawang putih, buah pala, lengkuas, serai, daun pandan, gajus and kismis. Boleh dimakan dengan daging atau ayam e.g. masak merah or just with dalca and popadom. Actually there is also another dish that can be eaten with the rice and it is called Daging Kabuli.
Have you ever tried another rice dish called Nasi Jintan?
Di,
my goodness..puasa2 gini sanggup kau letak lauk feveret aku terpampang depan2…uwaaaaa… For my family, tahun ni lauk (mesti ada) ialah nasi minyak, rendang, ayam masak merah(slurrrrpp), ayam goreng…Selain tu I duno plak sebab tahun ni Chef(aka My Maternal Nenek) will not be cooking at my place for Raya tis year. Melepaslah nak makan lauk raya 1st thing in the morning! Haha. Tapi tetap tak sabar nak makan all these yummy dishes tis Saturday! Kalau at my Paternal Nenek hse plak, makanan tak banyak coz she doesn’t cook; my aunties contribute instead. So ada lah nanti same dishes but cooked by different people. Usually I will still grab the Ayam Masak Merah and ketupat wif serondeng. Makan kering2, sedapppp.
.:Yara:.
I’d actually looked up for tat Nasi Kabuli recipe on the internet.hehehe.And now i’d got the idea how it actually looks like
